Sonos removed the "play from device" function in the Sonos app. That, and given that we have the Play:1, means we can no longer directly play music that is locally stored on our devices via our Sonos speakers (without some overly complicated, indirect route). While Sonos will never acknowledge it, we have no doubt this was a move to push its customers into purchasing new hardware, which supports AirPlay, using the ruse that the evolution of iOS renders the engineering of this function impossible. Not only has Apple disputed that claim, we aren’t playing a game of, effectively, planned obsolescence to push customers into buying more of your hardware. Given that the ability to play locally stored music was the entire reason behind our purchase, we’re off to another platform.
